Agnes Esther (Sogge) Baumann was born May 20, 1963, in Sturgis, SD, to John and Anna Sogge. “Aggy” arrived 6 minutes before her twin brother, Keith and joined other siblings, Laura, Dale and Neil. Home was on a farm near Fruitdale, SD for 6 years before the family moved to Spearfish. Many hours were spent playing football with the boys and running ‘cross country’.

After graduating from Spearfish High School in 1981, she attended college at Black Hills State and Northern State and received a BS in Special Education. Having worked as a houseparent at the SD Developmental Center in Custer, she returned as was hired as a Program Planner for one of the units. During this time, she met and married Mark L. Baumann. She became step-mother to his son, Marcus, and two more children joined them; Jessica and Francis. Given that Jessica had severe cerebral palsy affecting all joints, Aggy became her advocate, pursuing the most beneficial programs and activities for Jessie. The whole family was involved with the Suncatcher Handicapped Riding Program. She also became a BMX cyclist to accompany Frank and enjoyed his Destination Imagination activities. In later years, Jessie and Aggy enjoyed riding in a side-by-side.

Aggy and Mark developed a campfire wood business, and she spent many days bundling firewood. When not working, she loved to work jigsaw puzzles-the harder the better-and make Rya rugs. Table and card games brought out a feisty side!

After a rapid brain tumor diagnosis on April 1st of this year, she enjoyed a family gathering to celebrate the wedding of Frank and his wife, Sohee Kim of South Korea, held on May 1st in the Zen garden of Mark and Aggy. Aggy remained at home and passed away on September 21, 2026, with Mark at her side.

Aggy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Sogge and brother, Dale. She is survived by her best friend and husband, Mark; son, Marcus (Misti) of Sedona, AZ; daughter, Jessica of Spearfish, SD; son, Frank (Sohee) of South Korea; sister, Laura (Keith) Burden of Custer, SD; her brothers, Neil (Jodi) of Fairbury, IL and Keith (Ceilia) of Spokane, WA.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Whitewood, SD.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Custer, SD.
