Alexander C. "Sonny" Salles, of Hot Springs, SD, was born February 19, 1932, and was called to his heavenly home from the Hospice House in Rapid City on June 7, 2016, after health issues with Parkinsons, diabetes and a past stroke.
Sonny was abandoned at a young age when he relocated to Hot Springs, due to a split family; he was taken into a wonderful home, living and growing up with Lyle and Myrtle Peterson and their families. He was a high achiever and overcame his growing years working for local ranchers as well as the Bureau of Reclamation, working in the building of Angostura Dam. Sonny worked many years for Domestic Electric and later for Peoples Telephone and Telegraph, which was bought out by Golden West, where he had a total employment of 35 years.
Sonny was married April 18, 1958, to Violet Keller, with whom he had three sons, Steven (Kathy), Gregory and Kelly. His achievements were the remodeling and establishing a home on Fall River Road. His dream home was a house moved from Buffalo Gap, SD, which was built in the late 1897 era. He was successful in total remodeling, landscaping and building a dream home for his family. He was an inspiration to his family to dream and go forth by reading and putting forth your abilities, which his sons were so inspired.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Julie; Loraine; Gloria; adoptive parents, Lyle and Myrtle Peterson; and son, Kelly.
Sonny leaves his wife, Violet, of 58 years of marriage; sons, Steve (Kathy) Salles; Gregory Salles; grandchildren, Cory; and Michele. Emily. Other close friends include: Wayne and Elizabeth Peterson and family; Don and Lois Huxford and family, Leonard and Kay Benson, Leo Hagenson as well as Jarvis and Janice Ellis. These friends were like family to Sonny in his formative years and he was so thankful for all of them.
Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at the Bethesda Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary Jacobsen officiating. Committal services will immediately follow at the Evergreen Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at Bethesda Lutheran Church after the committal services.
A memorial has been established in Sonny's name to benefit the Bethesda Lutheran Church where he has been a member for over sixty years.
