Alfred E. Hatch, age 81, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away December 19, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Hot Springs.

Alfred was born January 20, 1931, in Helena, MT, to Walter and Martha (Benton) Hatch, Sr.
He served in the National Guard near the end of the Korean War, being called to active duty for the last 18 months of service.

In May 1955 until April 1972, he was married to Arlene Fay Muhm. Four children were born to this union.

Alfred was employed at Igloo Ammunitions Depot before becoming employed at the Veterans Administration Center. At the VA Alfred started his career as a Nursing Assistant, became a Domiciliary Assistant and retiring in 1980, as a firefighter. After retirement Alfred was employed at Wild Bill's Trading Post working under Paul Hickok and Clem Nighswonger.

Throughout his lifetime he enjoyed many volunteer hours as a Reserve Office for the Sheriffs'' Posse, Hot Springs Fire Department and the Hot Springs Ambulance.

Survivors include sons, Alfred Mark Hatch of Hot Springs; Robert (Kara) Hatch of Rapid City, SD; daughter, Linda (Steven) Varvel of Hot Springs; brothers, Benjamin Hatch of Edgemont, SD; Harry Hatch of Sioux Falls, SD; David Hatch of Iowa; sisters, Lillian (Kenneth) Fowers of Logan, UT; Lola (Lyle) Warner of Cody, WY; Phylis (David) Muhm of Hot Springs; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Joyce, three brothers, one granddaughter, Christina, one grandson, Joe, and two foster sons, Lester and Floyd.

Graveside services will be held at a later date and have been placed in the care of McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.
