Obituary

Alfred Lloyd Peterson, 91, of Custer, South Dakota, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018.

"Lloyd" Peterson was born March 18, 1927, in Lemmon, South Dakota, to George and Mildred Peterson of Morrison, South Dakota. He was the oldest of four children. In 1945 he joined the United States Navy and was stationed on the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. Upon returning home, he farmed with his father on the Peterson homestead south of Morrison, South Dakota. Later he moved to Lead, South Dakota, and worked in Homestake Gold Mine. In 1956, he moved his family to El Paso, Texas, where Lloyd worked at the White Sand Missile Range. Later he moved to Hatch, New Mexico, where he worked for the New Holland Company. Shortly after, Lloyd became a cross-country trucker, purchasing his own truck, and moving to back to South Dakota, residing in Edgemont. After selling his truck, he worked as a transport for the railroad stationed in Edgemont. In 2016, Lloyd move to an apartment in Custer and in January 2018, he moved to the Custer Senior Regional Care Center where he passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018.

He is survived by his children, Barbara Smoka and family of North Carolina; and Chuck Peterson and family of California; two sisters, Phyllis Miller of Custer, South Dakot;, and Evelyn (Robert) Rieger of Lemmon, South Dakota; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Lloyd Peterson was proceeded in death by his parents and one brother, George "Pete" Peterson of Casper, Wyoming.

Memorial service arrangements are pending. Burial will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, South Dakota.
