Alice J. "A.J." Fraas, age 78, of Hot Springs, SD, died January 25, 2010 at her home in Hot Springs. She was born December 23, 1931, in Columbus, OH and was the daughter of W. Lester and Carolyn Griffith. She lived in Ohio until moving with her husband and children to South Dakota in 1973.
A.J. graduated from Worthington High School and The Christ Hospital School of Nursing and attended Ohio State University.
As a registered nurse, she worked at the Ohio State University Hospital and for 28 years at the Hot
Springs Veterans Hospital. She continued to work on contract for nearly 8 more years, thoroughly enjoying her work with the veterans.
She was a member of the United Churches.
She enjoyed being out of doors in South Dakota, riding her horses, enjoying her pets and gardening. She greatly enjoyed her hobby of photography, sharing her photos with family and friends.
A.J. is survived by her husband, Bill of Hot Springs; daughter Tracy (Mark) Plessinger of Molina, CO; sons, Wyatt (Jeanie) Fraas of Coleridge, NE; Douglas (Kelly) Fraas of Redmond, OR; sister, Mary Ann (Paul) Harnack of Columbus, OH; sister-in-law, Ann Kramer of Columbus, OH, three grandchildren and four nephews.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 29, 2010 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.
A memorial has been established in AJ's name.
