Obituary

Alice Kathryn Gannon beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away, December 7, 2016, peacefully at home, after a courageous 7 year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving husband and children.

Alice was born on January 3, 1934, to Earl and Helen Baumberger in Chester, South Dakota. She grew up on Elmvue Farm and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Dell Rapids, SD. Alice then received a BA in English education from Mt. Marty College.

On June 19, 1958, Alice married Donald Cletus Gannon; they were married for 59 years. Alice taught high school for 6 years before becoming a full time mother in 1964, to Patrick Joseph. Eighteen months later Michael John joined the family and in 1970, Tonya Michelle completed their family. Alice was blessed with 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

The lay ministry program filled Alice's leisure time. After finishing the 3 year deaconate program there were ample opportunities for marriage preparation and baptism preparation, presiding at communion services and doing adult education. The Church has been the center of the family's activities as the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Daughters, Choir Cantering, as well as the ever present janitor activities have provided good times.

Alice is survived by her loving husband; Donald Gannon, her children; Patrick (Traci) Gannon, Michael (Susan) Gannon, and Tonya Gannon; 5 loving grandchildren; Devon, Cortney, Anna, Olivia, and Daniel; 1 great grandchild, Aubrielle.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; Earl and Helen Baumberger, her brother; Jay Baumberger, and her sister; Theresa Haven.

The family will receive friends, December 9, 2016, from 6-7 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Wake services will be held at 7:00 pm, Friday, December 9, 2016. Mass will be held Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Committal service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, December 11, 2016, at the Cold Springs Cemetery in Pringle, SD.

The family sends a special Thank You to Grace of the Pines Hospice for their support and comfort for Alice and her family.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Alice's name to benefit Grace of the Pines Hospice in Hot Springs, SD.
