Alta Glassley Martinson , age 84, of Edgemont passed away Thursday, February 3, 2011, as Custer Regional Senior Care in Custer, SD.

Alta was born July 19, 1926, at Stillwell, OK to Alfred and Frances (Fisher) Glassley. In 1941 she moved with her parents and twin sister, Alma, to Sundance, WY, and then to Edgemont, SD in 1943. She graduated from Edgemont High School with the class of 1944. Nearly all of her adult life was spent in or near Edgemont.

Alta was married to Wrey Martinson for 33 years until his death in 1977. Three sons were born to this union: Larry and wife, Sandra of Harrison, NE; Robert and Kim of Amarillo, TX; and James and wife, Jana of Hill City, SD. In 1977, she married Perry Wheeler of Custer. Perry passed away in 1987.

Alta was a member of the Methodist church and the VFW Auxiliary of Custer.

Survivors include her three sons, a step-son and step-daughter, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, four sisters, one brother and one granddaughter.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
