Alvina M. Reister, age 98, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away February 5, 2011, at the Castle Manor Nursing Home in Hot Springs.
Alvina was born May 5, 1912, in Parmalee, SD, to Fredericka Mohl and Daniel Heinert. She attended elementary school thru the eighth grade in Parmalee. On March 6, 1932, Alvina married Henry Reister in Norris, SD and they lived on farms or ranches around the Parmalee and Colome, SD, areas. While living near Parmalee, Alvina and Henry got together with friends and family and sang duets or as a group around the piano, which was played by Henry's sister, Annette. In 1955 Alvina and Henry moved to Hot Springs. Here Alvina cleaned homes and worked at the Hot Springs Schools as a cook for fourteen years.
Alvina was a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church, Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) and was an active member of the Hot Springs Senior Center. Alvina reached out in love and care to her family and friends. She lived by her strong Christian virtues and touched many with her personality and beautiful smile.
Alvina is survived by two daughters, Alice Hullinhen of Phoenix, AZ; Elizabeth (Kenneth) Lorang of Hot Springs; two sons, Robert (Janet) Reister of Casper, WY; Paul (Sharon) Mohl of Box Elder, SD; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren and twenty-six great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry; parents, ten siblings; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 10, 2011, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 11, 2011, at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Hot Springs with Pastor Jake Jacobsen officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview cemetery near Oral, SD.
Memorials in Alvina's name may be sent to the Bethesda Lutheran School or the Hot Springs Senior Citizens Center, both in Hot Springs.
