Obituary

Andalene Glover Dunston, age 88, of Custer, SD, passed away March 13, 2013, at the Custer Regional Senior Care Center.

Andalene was born in Birmingham, AL, on September 24, 1924, to Pearl Motte and Horace Harmon Glover. She graduated from West End High School in 1942 and attended Birmington-Southern College, where she was a member of the Class of 1946. She was employed by Geo. A. Hormel & Co. and retired after 27 years on the office staff.

Andalene was Organist at the Berney Points Baptist Church for many years and Substitute Organist at Hunter Street and Woodlawn Baptist Churches. She was a former member of the Birmingham Chapter of American Guild of Organists and a Life Member of National Federation of Music Clubs and Alabama Federation of Music Clubs, where she served as Recording Secretary for four years. She was a past President of Woodlawn Music Study Club and a longtime member of the Metropolitan Opera Guild.

Andalene was a Director of Birmingham Baptist Association Women's Missionary Union and was certified by the Home Mission Board of Southern Baptist Convention as a Volunteer Literacy Teacher. She was a Life Member and past President of Samford Auxiliary and also served as President of both Bush Hills Study Club and Women's Club of Birmingham. Since 1993, she was a member of Independent Presbyterian Church. She was the wife of the late James G. Dunston.

In 2007, Andalene moved to Custer, SD. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Nancy Dunston, Custer; granddaughter, Christine (Steve) Douglas, Suwanee GA; great-grandchildren, Neil, Sarah, and Hunter Douglas, Suwanee GA; sister, Dorothy Glover Galloway, Knoxville, TN; niece, Anne Randle Galloway, Knoxville, TN; niece, Lissa (Jim) Kelley, Nashville, TN; great-niece, Kathleen Anne Kelley, Washington, DC; sisters-in-law, Margaret Lane, Gardendale, AL; Lois Pici, Saint Petersburg, FL; Jean Dunston, Mountain Brook, AL; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 18, 2013, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer with Pastor Opoien officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Johns-Ridout's Funeral Parlor, 2116 University Blvd., Birmingham.

Committal will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 22, 2013, at the Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.

A memorial has been established in Andalene's name to benefit the Battle Mountain Human Society, Hot Springs, SD.
