Obituary

Ardis M. Brown, age 82, of Hot Springs, SD passed away April 22, 2009 at Castle Manor Retirement Home in Hot Springs.

Ardis M. (Jones) Brown was born to Clarence and May (Moore) Jones on March 15, 1927 at home near Newport, NE. She lived most of her adult and childhood in the Bassett/Newport, NE area. Ardis graduated from Bassett High School in 1943 at the age of 16, she then taught country schools (K-8) while taking summer college classes. March 15, 1951 she married Donald Brown at the Long Pine Methodist Church. To this union two girls were born, Connie in 1952 and Donna in 1954. They raised their children on farms and ranches in the Brown/Rock Co., NE area until the early 60's when Donald started working construction and they moved to Ainsworth, NE. They left Ainsworth in 1972 and started traveling with Don's construction job, living in a variety of the western states. After Don's retirement in 1991 Don and Ardis moved to Hot Springs. Life was her family, friends and church, she enjoyed sewing and quilting. She spent the last few years of her life at Castle Manor in Hot Springs after a stroke.

Survivors include her husband, Donald of Hot Springs; two daughters, Connie Patton of Hot Springs; Donna (Bill) Peterson of Chamberlain, SD; one sister Avis Hutton of Bassett, NE; 2 brother- in-laws, Bob Ellis of Cody, NE; Lloyd Brown of Cheuteau, OK; three grandchildren Debby Gruhn (Klyle) of Vermillion, SD, Jack Peterson of Agar, SD and Kelly Peterson of Amsterdam, NY and two great grandchildren Hannah and Laura Gruhn of Vermillion, SD.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 26, 2009 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills.

Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 27, 2009 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs with Pastor Dan Barcus officiating. Interment will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday , April 27, 2009 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Adris' name to benefit the Cascade Volunteer Fire Department.
