Obituary

Avis Roberts Runyan Fleharty, beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Sister has passed away and gone to a place without pain and suffering. She fought a long and courageous battle against cancer but finally God took her home on May 13, 2013. While we will all miss her, we are thankful that she is now at peace.

Avis was born in Whitney, NE on April 7, 1934 to Willis and Maude Roberts. She joined seven brothers and sisters at home and later welcomed a younger brother. She graduated high school in Chadron in 1951 and later married Don Runyan. Three children were born, Vickie, Lonnie and LuAnn. Avis loved music and taught herself to play the guitar and piano and she loved square dancing with her family and friends. Avis also loved bowling on various leagues in Chadron. With her team members she went to state tournaments and a national tournament in Denver. She was one of the best.

Avis was preceded in death by her parents, Don Runyan, brothers Lester (Dorothy), Dean (Martha), Charles (Lenita), Steve and Dale (Rose) and sister Zada Pierce.

She is survived by her husband Lee of Hot Springs, sister-in-law Pat, brother-in-law Billy Pierce, daughters Vickie (Parker) of Fort Worth, TX and LuAnn Wood (Randy)of Elon, NC, son Lonnie (Julie)of Ettrick, WI, brother Boyd Roberts (Shirley) of Chadron, sister Martheena Hayden (Don) of Chadron, grandchildren Brett Parker (Stephanie), Ryan Wood (Nicole), Casey Wood, Sherry Mann (Cory), Holly Runyan, Sarah Runyan and Candice Hawthorne, great grandchildren Charlotte Parker, Christian Hawley, Grayson Hawley, Chloe Mann and Colter Mann and Eli Runyan. She is also survived by many, many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Roberts Trailhead in July during Fur Trade Days.
