Barbara Annette 'Barb' Craig, 81, passed away June 12, 2017, at her home in Buffalo Gap, SD.
Barbara was born July 19, 1935, in Alliance, NE, to Mark and Helen (Olsen) Dulin. Shortly after her birth, her parents moved the family to the Buffalo Gap area to farm and ranch. Her father was the first person to
introduce registered Black Angus cattle to South Dakota.
Barb completed her primary education at Buffalo Gap School then attended college at Rapid City Business College and obtained her Bachelor's Degree. She then moved to Denver and worked at the Bell Telephone Company. Barb met and married to USAF Msgt. Donald Craig while in Denver. They traveled with their five children during Donald's military service.
Barb returned to Buffalo Gap with her five children while Donald continued to serve overseas. Donald and Barb divorced in 1978. Barb was a very strong woman who overcame many challenges and hardships while
singlehandedly raising her children. Family was always a predominant force in Barb's life. She ensured her children understood the value of family by maintaining close relationships with her mother and siblings. Barb also instilled a strong work ethic in her children by example. Barb worked many years in restaurant and food service business in Hot Springs and Custer.
While family was very important to Barb, she was able to come into her own through her long-lasting friendship with Penny Morris. The two would be involved in a number of antics while they lived in Hot Springs.
Barb was known to many as a lifelong friend and someone who spoke her mind plainly. She enjoyed a good laugh and funny stories and relished the leisure times spent with family and friends during holidays and special
celebrations. She would help people in need with whatever resources she could offer.
Barb is survived by her two sons, Scott Craig of Buffalo Gap; Shawn Craig of Douglas, WY; three daughters, Terri Williams of Caputa, SD; Angie Wager of Hot Springs, SD; Gerri (Tim) Velder of Sundance, WY; brother, James Dulin of Norwich, CT; sister, Donna Willis of Victorville, CA; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jerry Dulin and her sister Shirley Dulin.
A celebration of Barbara's life will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs with Rev. Dr. J. Edwin Coates officiating. Interment will follow at the Buffalo Gap Cemetery and then a time of fellowship at the Prairie View United Methodist Church near Smithwick, SD.
