Barbara (Kennedy) Shindelbower, 81, of Custer, SD passed away on August 2, 2016 at the Custer Regional Senior Center in Custer.

Barbara was born on March 5, 1935, to late Hearl and Inez (Havens) Kennedy in Rapid City, SD. She was the youngest of 8 children. She has 3 surviving siblings: Dorothy Woeasrer, Betty Dowen, Harley Kennedy; brother in law, Loyd Shindelbower; and sister in law, Patty Lemmons.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Dana Louise (Marlin) Mills; grandchildren, Shawn (Brandi) Shannon; Rance; Zachary; Talitha; 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She married late Donald Shindelbower on June 1, 1953, after which Don enlisted in the United States Army. Barbara followed Don to many Army posts. She was a great mom and wife. At each new post she set up a new home for her family. Barbara enjoyed sewing for her two daughters. One of her pride and joys was her grandson, Shawn and his wife, Brandi Shannon; they were her caregivers for many years.

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; daughter, Judy Lintz, 4 siblings, and good friend Dana DeBerard.

At her request no services will be held. Per her family's request a donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in her name would be nice.
