Bazil E. 'Bud' Murray, 99 1/2, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away October 20, 2018, at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home in Hot Springs.
Bud was born May 9, 1919, to Harrison and Nellie (Thone) Murray in Peever, SD.
Bud enlisted in the Army Air Corp in October 1941, and after additional radio operator/gunner training he was assigned as a B-25 crewmember. He proudly served in China with the 14 th Army Air Force Flying Tigers. After his discharge in 1945, he returned to South Dakota, and began his work career in the construction industry. During these years he worked for Grey Construction, Adolfson and Peterson and Bectel Construction. Some of his projects included residential homes, schools, hospitals, the Ft. Randall Dam, Reserve Mining and Grand Forks Air Base. Bud retired as a construction superintendent on the Fulton nuclear power plant. His second and third careers were building Super 8 Hotels and teaching at the Sisseton Wahepton College.
Bud is survived by his two sons, Paul (Vanessa) of Joplin, MO; Ray (Shelly) of Chanhassen, MN; sister, Lenore Johnston of Sisseton, SD; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; former wife, Barbara of Aberdeen, SD.
Bud is preceded in death by his first wife, Dorthy; brother, Jim; sisters, Lorraine; Lynn; and Laura.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 2, 2018, at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home Auditorium in Hot Springs with Chaplain Morris Nelson and Fr. Claude Vershure officiating. Interment will follow at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Home Cemetery in Hot Springs.
A memorial has been established in Bud's name to benefit the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home in Hot Springs.
