Betty Jean Huntley, age 80, died at the Fall River Hospital, Hot Springs, SD on January 21, 2008 from natural causes.
Betty was born on July 19, 1927 in Faulkton, SD to Roy D. and Cora M (Fjune) Travis. She married Charles L. Huntley June 23, 1946 in Clear Lake, IA. Together they established their own commercial bakery in Manly, IA in 1960. While vacationing in the Black Hills in 1962 they made a career decision to move their business to Hot Springs, SD naming it the Fall River Bakery. In 1974, while still retaining ownership of the bakery, Betty started working at the State Veterans Home as a CNA. She once again changed her career to work as a clerk at Paul's Drug Store. Her personal time was spent with her family camping, fishing, boating, and playing cards. Betty was a very uplifting person to be around and she always had a smile and friendly greeting for everyone she met.
Grateful to have shared in her life where her husband of 52 years, Charles, who passed in November 1998; her four sons, Richard (Dick) Huntley and his wife, Bonnie of Horace, ND; Larry Huntley, who passed in December 1998, and his wife Alice; Raymond Huntley and Craig Huntley both of Hot Springs, SD as well as a host of friends. Betty had one grandchild, Melissa (Huntley) and Andi Broneske, Argusville, ND and one great grandchild (Maximus age 3).
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 25, 2008 at United Churches in Hot Springs with Pastor Morris Nelson officiating. Viewing will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.
