Betty Lou Stevens, 71, of Hot Springs, SD died Sunday, February 17, 2008 at Rapid City Regional Hospital, due to complications resulting from surgery for a brain tumor. She was born April 4, 1936 in Dewey, SD to Pete and Fern (Evans) LeLaCheur. She attended school in Hot Springs graduating in 1955.
On December 29, 1958 she married her High School sweetheart, Marvin J. Stevens in Hot Springs. She worked at the Fall River County Courthouse in both the Auditor's and Treasurer's office until 1962 when they purchased the plumbing shop. She and Marvin had worked side by side in the family plumbing business until her death.
She was a member of the Hot Springs Fire Department Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Gold Dust Car Club. She loved researching genealogy, playing cards, and watching basketball, especially if her kids or grandkids were participating. She took great pleasure in hosting meals and get togethers with family and friends and could cook a meal for a crowd in a moments notice. She was a great mother not only to her own kids but also to her sister Joyce, many of her children's friends and many of the shop employees.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin of Hot Springs; daughter, Deb (Don) Robertson of La Center, WA; sons, Jim (Darla) Stevens and Alan (Michelle) Stevens of Hot Springs; grandchildren, TyLea Sorensen; Heather, Sarah, Mikayla, Laree, Seth and Riley Stevens; great-grandchildren Jarek and Brody Sorensen; sister, Myrtle (Dewey) Trent; brothers, Donnie (Joan) and Frank (Joyce) LeLaCheur; and one sister-in-law, Freda Hansen. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Roscoe LeLaCheur and sister, Joyce Lorenz.
Visitation will be held 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 22, 2008 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Matt Lim officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Betty's name to benefit the Hot Springs Volunteer Fire Department to be used for a kitchen in the new fire hall.
