Obituary

Carol Alice (Dunbar) Webster of Oelrichs, South Dakota, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2009, at the age 67 while at home surrounded by family.

Carol was born on April 18, 1942, in her grandparent's sod house in Blaine County, Nebraska. She lived on a farm in rural Loup County, Nebraska and attended school at Knobby Ridge Elementary and Loup County High. After graduation, she attended Chadron State College where she received a two-year diploma and where she met and married Dale Webster of Oelrichs, South Dakota. Dale and Carol were married on July 23, 1961 in Taylor, Nebraska, and they began ranching in rural Fall River County, South Dakota. Carol taught school for two years at the Pettigrew School before becoming a full-time rancher and mother. After her children were nearly grown, she worked many years in Helen's Café in Chadron, Nebraska, followed by several years as a special caregiver for her granddaughter, Michaela Wohlers, and finally the last few years for Mel's Playground Daycare where she was known as Grandma to many children.

Carol's special passions were her husband, children, grandchildren, friends, cattle, sunsets, butterflies, sewing, antiques, crafting, sea shells, and angels. She took pleasure in the small details in life such as reading to her grandchildren, an obscure prairie flower, a new born baby calf, the hug of a grandchild, or the sly smile of a mischievous child. She was affectionately known as "Ma" Webster to her family.

Carol is survived by her husband, Dale Webster; her son and daughter-in-law, Brian & Marti Webster; her daughter and son-in-law, Marie & Bruce Wohlers; her son and daughter-in-law, Lynn & Melissa Webster; and her grandchildren, Drew, Taylor & Michaela Wohlers, and Langdon, Raena & Kailee Webster.

Additional immediate family survivors include her sister, Vicky Fine and her husband Loran; her sister, Betty Fogelman and her husband Larry; her brother, Curtis Dunbar and his wife Jeanne; and her brother-in-law Pete Peterson. She was preceded in death by her parents, L. D. & Inez Dunbar and her sister, Evelyn Peterson.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 17, 2009 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs, SD with Dr. J. Edwin Coates officiating. Interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Oelrichs.
