Carolyn R. Hunter, age 85, of Custer, SD passed away on January 11, 2021, at the Avantara Mountain View Nursing Home in Rapid City, SD.

Carolyn was born on August 5, 1935, in Mitchell, SD to Lyle B. and Ruth (Jessup) Reese. She met the love of her life, Hansel 'Hal' A. Hunter, at the skating rink in Custer and they married on January 12, 1957. Carolyn retired as a bank teller. She loved to crochet and read romance novels.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, just shy by one day of 64 years, Hal Hunter of Custer; sister, Alene Gibbons of Spokane, WA; nephew, Dan Reese of Frisco, TX;  niece, Diane Scott of Lakewood, CO; niece, Debi Maynes of Washington and nephew, Todd Anderson of California.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Ruth Reese; son, Phillip; daughter, Shelia; and brother, Gene Reese.

A celebration of life for Carolyn R. Hunter will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 15, 2021 in the Pine Room of the Courthouse Annex, 447 Crook Street, Custer, SD.   Please wear casual dress and luncheon will follow.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Custer.
