Casey Lee Varick Sr., 70, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away November 8, 2021, at his residence in Hot Springs, SD.

Casey was born July 24, 1951, in Hot Springs, SD, to Robert and Helen (Fitzner) Varick.

Casey attended all 12 grades at Hot Springs Schools, graduated high school and attended SDSU. Casey married Ida Cox in 1973 and from that union two children were born, Tanya and Casey Jr. Casey married Peggy Larson in 1996.

Casey always had a happy go lucky smile and hello for everyone he met or came upon.  He was a master of walking into a room full of strangers and by the time he left, he knew everyone and they knew him by name. Casey was a member of the Elks Club and a past member of the Kiwanis.

Casey loved to entertain family & friends and was an excellent cook. He was an athlete who loved the outdoors playing softball for years with Skie Construction, hunting, fishing with the grandkids and clay pigeon/target shooting with his good friend Al Walker. Casey took pride in watching his own kids play sports growing up and then seeing the grandkids excel at the activities they participated in. He enjoyed decorating the house and yard for the holidays, shopping, yard sales and had a knack for finding bargains and great deals.

Casey operated a small  restaurant called Casey's Pizza Plus in Hot Springs in 1988-1991. He was a great business owner who gave many of the local High School kids work opportunities.  Lots of smiles, laughs, pizza, subs and ice cream served up!

Casey supported his family working at Hills Materials in Hot Springs and then transitioned  his career to the Burlington Northern Railroad where he had the privilege of being the last Conductor to oversee the "High Line"  that went from Edgemont to Deadwood. This role landed his name in the book of Historic Railroads of the Black Hills. He loved to reminisce about all of the kind people who lived along this route and would come out to wave or offer up freshly baked goodies for the crew!

Casey is survived by his wife of 25 years, Peggy of Hot Springs; sons, Casey (Carrie) Varick of Rapid City, SD; Cory (Lindsey) Larson of Rapid City, SD; daughters, Tanya (JR) Steele of Hot Springs, SD; Jaymi (Scott) Ahrendt of Porter, TX; mother, Helen Bennett of Hot Springs, SD; brothers, Bob (Marylin) Varick of Hot Springs; Larry (Pat) Varick Port Orchard, WA;  Mike (Linda) Varick of Bremerton, WA; sisters, Debbie (Art) Crawford of Spokane, WA; Nancy (Sue Ganje)Varick of Hot Springs, SD; grandchildren, Gavin, Megan and Emma Parker; Casey Lee Varick III; Haley (Nathan) Walker; Teigan Ahrendt; Rilee Potter; Hanna Larson;  and numerous nieces and nephews.
