Cathleen M. 'Cathy' Singhurst, age 93, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away, August 6, 2015, at Fall River Hospital in Hot Springs.
Cathleen was born September 6, 1921, to Earl and Kathryn (Bagley) Chilson, in Madison, SD.
Cathy was a beloved mother, school teacher, pastor's wife, and pillar of the faith for the Seventh-day Adventist Church here in Hot Springs as well as many other churches and schools through the Dakotas, Montana and California because she inspired many people to overcome challenges they faced or get through difficult times and see the value in looking past hardships. Cathy always placed the interests and affairs of others above her own comfort and certainly above her own possessions as she lived a life lacking in things that are considered essential to almost anyone else. On those few occasions when she did have just a little money to spend of her own, she relished the chance to indulge in some very small luxuries but could never place her own wants and desires above even the wants of others let alone their needs and thus constantly did without so that friends and family might have something they thought they wanted or needed. Such a life is rarely understood or just how rare and precious it really is. People just don't understand the joy that a person, who has attained this level of giving, can receive from knowing that their gifts have absolutely no ulterior motive. Not only will they receive nothing in return but they will usually be perceived as having been given from a position of abundance when that is far from the truth. And the joy is only in seeing the pleasure it brings and nothing more.
For those who were able to see this side of Cathy, I hope you can appreciate the life she lived and that you are inspired to find that same happiness by practicing this in paying forward from whatever you received whether it was a small item or a gift of time, compassion or a word of comfort or love.
Cathy is survived by her sons, Steven (Cathee) Singhurst of Tulsa, OK; Joel Singhurst of Reynoldsburg, OH; sisters, Patricia (Jim) Daulton of Hot Springs; Arlene Smith of Fleetwood, PA.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Hot Springs with Pastor Marion Miller officiating.
A memorial has been established in Cathy's name to benefit Gospel Outreach thru the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
