Obituary

Charles, Chuck, Papa Chuck Biegler was taken into the arms of his loving Savior after a valiant battle with bone and liver cancer on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at 3:25, p.m., Mountain Time.  For the last four days of his life, he was cared for by the excellent medical staff at the Regional Hospice House in Rapid City, SD, and we thank them for their thorough and loving treatment.

Chuck was born in Spokane, Washington, on August 25, 1945, the fourth son of Joseph B. and Agatha Biegler.  Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Annie, and, older brother Ron.  He is survived by his brothers, Duane, of Traverse City, Michigan, and Joseph (Lydia) of Liberty Lake, WA, Susan Biegler of Carson City, NV, stepson, Randy Macfarlane (Debbie) of Caldwell, ID, their daughters, Christine, Corinn, Jordyn (Johnathan), and great grandson Henley James.  He is also survived by stepson Shawn (Sharri) Macfarlane of Vancouver, WA, their sons, Mason and Bryce, stepson Kevin, and stepdaughter Melissa (Bill) and their daughter Chelsie.  In addition, Chuck leaves behind several nephews and nieces:  Fr. Pat Biegler, Monique (Chris) Oose, their sons, David and Alex, Dan (Debbie) Biegler, and son Kevin, Leeda Jo Beha and daughters Olivia, Emma and Bella, Heidi Hankins and son Parker and daughter Avery.  He is also remembered and missed by a multitude of cousins, friends and acquaintances.

Chuck graduated from St. Paschal's Grade School in Spokane Valley in 1958, attended St. Francis Seminary, Troutdale, Oregon, for three years with his bro Joe, and graduated from Gonzaga Prep in 1964 with honors.  He was blessed with an extraordinary ear and gift for music.  When he was 4 years old, he taught himself how to play the piano.  By the age of 8, he learned how to play the accordion and in high school he took up the trumpet by listening to the high school band's practice sessions.  When he learned its musical pieces, he then joined it.

After graduation he launched his musical career and entertained in dinner and night clubs, churches, senior centers, for immediate and extended family and friends, and a variety of other venues over the last 53 years.   "The Chuck Biegler Show" traveled from Priest Lake, Rathdrum, and Spirit Lake, Idaho to Spokane, Wenatchee, Seattle, Washington to Juno and Kodiak, Alaska to Miles City, Montana and finally to Custer, South Dakota where he settled permanently.

In 1985, he married the love of his life, Annie Macfarlane, who joined him in Custer where they began their married lives together.  Annie was also a fine musician with a beautiful singing voice, and Chuck and she formed a duo named "Me and My Shadow".  Together they traveled to various places in Washington, Montana, Wyoming and back to Custer where they enjoyed a thirteen year engagement at the Bavarian Inn.  During this time (June, 1987), he and Annie provided the entertainment for Mom and Dad Biegler's 50 th wedding anniversary celebration held in Custer.

Chuck also exhibited a tremendous sense of humor.  He so enjoyed telling, listening and sharing jokes.  He created humorous nicknames for many of his relatives and friends and often accompanied them with a smile and short singing ditty.  He also did very realistic impersonations of movie stars, entertainers, acquaintances, animals and mimicked numerous sounds effects, which he incorporated into his musical performances.

But above all else Chuck was a devoted Catholic Christian.  His generous heart knew no bounds.  Numerous are the people and organizations to whom he reached out and helped in their times of need and crisis.  It is because of his deep love of God, life, family, friends and strangers that he will be greatly missed.

Our family especially thanks Roy and Mary Hendrickson, Chuck's long-time, devoted and caring friends, who have always supported him especially during his severe illness in 2014 and his most recent battle with cancer.  We also thank Ginny Shattuck, his dear friend, who cooked, cleaned, washed and performed a variety of tasks for our brother over the years. Finally, we thank Drs. Joy Falkenburg, Lisa Brown, Mona Saini, and all the staff at the Custer Regional Hospital/Clinic and the in-home and in-house hospice team of Rapid City for their dedicated treatment and care of Chuck. Rest in the eternal love, joy and peace of our Lord, our Chuck!
