Obituary

Charles Alan Burg, age 46, of Oral, SD, died on September 11, 2014, in Hot Springs, SD.

Alan was born January 12, 1968, to George and Joanne Burg in Hot Springs, SD. He joined 2 sisters and 3 brothers on the family farm where he spent the rest of his life doing what he loved, raising cattle. After graduating from Hot Springs High School, he served 4 years in the Navy, serving on both the USS Independence and USS Nimitz air craft carriers. He then returned to the family farm to start his cattle herd. Because ranching can get expensive, he also worked for several local ranchers before being hired by the Mammoth Site of SD as a maintenance worker. Along with his dream of building a premiere cattle herd, he was able to share his bigger than life heart with many local organizations and a lot of the young people of Fall River County. He coached middle school football for 25 years and walked the sidelines for the varsity team, assisted with AAU and high school and middle school wrestling, was a member of the Fall River County Fair Board, a volunteer firefighter with the Oral Fire Department, and a lifelong member of Bethesda Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, George and a nephew, Paul.

Survivors include mother, Joanne Burg of Oral, SD; brothers, Kevin (Connie) Burg of Summerset, SD; Roger (Sharon) Burg of San Antonio, TX; Greg (Marianne) Burg of Oakland, CA; sisters, Teresa (Rob) Grass of Rapid City, SD; and Cheryl (Jerry) Huddleston of Hot Springs, SD and his assortment of nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Tuesday Sept 16, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs, SD.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Hot Springs with Rev. Gary Jacobsen officiating.

Memorials in Alan's name may be directed to the Bethesda Lutheran Church and School or to an organization of your choice.
