Charles Billy "Bill" Slayton, age 78, passed away December 7, 2009 at his home in Custer, SD.
Bill was born October 15, 1931 in Minturn, AR, to Lucion Garfield and Polly (Vinson) Slayton.
On August 26, 1963 he married Delores June Ford. They shared many wonderful memories including the birth of a daughter and living in Europe for ten years.
He was a beloved singer and guitarist of "Custer's Last Band", being known for his beautiful voice and his love for gospel and southern country music.
Bill had a passion for the Bible and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He took great pride in his wife, family and friends and he is expecting to see everyone in heaven.
Survivors include his wife, Dee Slayton of Custer; their daughter, Mitzi (Paul) French of Custer; three grandchildren of Custer, Justus; Tayleigh and Chyla; a son, Ron and two daughters, Brenda and Glenda of CA; a daughter, Connie of TX; plus eight more grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many loved nieces and nephews. He was a beloved brother to Ruth (Carrell) Davis and Pat Wells of CA; Peggy Neal and Mildred (Chuck) Gentry of AL.
There will be a celebration honoring Bill's life at his home in Custer (25378 US Hwy 385) per his request, at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 9th. The scattering of ashes will be carried out privately by immediate family at a later date.
