Obituary

Claude Hubert Warren, 90, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away peacefully Friday, June 30, 2017, at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.

Claude was born June 17, 1927, in Berkeley, CA, to Claude Harry and Ruth Virginia (Culbertson) Warren. He spent his childhood in the Berkeley area and graduated from high school in 1945. Claude enlisted in the United States Navy on May 22, 1945 and served in the waning days of World War II aboard the sub tender USS Bushnell as a carpenter. He was honorably discharged on July 20, 1946.

Claude studied Electrical and Mechanical Engineering in California and worked in the mechanical engineering field. He was a skilled draftsman and engineer and worked for Shell Oil Research and Chevron Research, retiring in 1986. Claude loved fishing, boating and race cars and built, raced and totaled his own race car. He won many awards for facing.

Claude's two nieces always affectionately called him "Unkie", even after they were grown.

Claude moved to South Dakota with his niece in 2013. He loved the Black Hills area and made many friends at his retirement community.

Claude was preceded in death by his mother and father as well as his sister, Virginia Louise (Warren) Horn. He is survived by his two nieces, Nancy (Michael) Rubinstein and Linda (Tim) McElroy.
