Obituary

Clifford Brown was born in Custer on November 18, 1938, to William and Anna (Hanson) Brown.  Clifford went to be with Our Lord on January 19, 2019, right here in Custer, the town he spent his whole life in and loved.

Most of his life he did laundry for many different Custer families, and that simple life made him so very happy.  He loved his Maytag washing machines and had over two dozen of them, many early wringer washers that he still enjoyed using and was so proud of.

Clifford was a great historian.  He could tell you when a house was built in town or moved in from some outlying mining camp or farm.  He also knew who the first occupants were, how many children they had and all of their birthdays.  He was a great story teller and couldn't pass up a yard sale.

There were so many wonderfully kind people in our community who tried to look after Clifford, especially many local store personnel like Lynn's the Dollar General, True Value, and the first Interstate Bank.  He was so grateful to everyone and proud to count these people as friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father.  He leaves many friends behind and all of his wonderful stories.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 24, 2019, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Custer with Pastor Clark Struebing officiating. Committal services will follow at the Custer Cemetery.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Custer, SD.
