Obituary
Cody Eugene Barker, 25, of Edgemont, SD, passed away June 21, 2017, as a result of injuries suffered in an accident near Shawnee, WY.
Cody was born March 7, 1992 in Rapid City, SD to Kerry and Gaylene (Galinat) Barker. Cody spent his younger years on the ranch with his family in Edgemont, later moving to Rapid City, attending Rapid City Central High School and graduating in 2010. He continued his education in Brookings at South Dakota State University and earned a bachelor's degree in Construction Management with a business minor, graduating in 2015. He returned to Edgemont, to fulfill his lifelong dream of joining the family business, Barker Concrete and Construction.
Cody is survived by his father, Kerry (Stephanie) Barker of Edgemont; mother, Gaylene (Mark) Richards of Rapid City; sister, Breahna Barker of Rapid City; half-sister, Sarah Kate of Edgemont; step-brother, Ryan Richards of Rapid City; grandparents, Marvin and Florence Galinat of Rapid City; Kenneth and Verna Barker of Edgemont. Cody is survived by his long-time girlfriend and fiancé Cayleah Friedrich of Edgemont. Cody is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many close friends.
Cody had a heart for the outdoors. He enjoyed many activities, including camping, golfing, fishing, hunting, four wheeling, skiing and any activity that he could consider an adventure. Cody also had many hobbies. He enjoyed woodworking, building and remodeling, when he saw things he could create or improve.
Cody was passionate about his work and very skilled and professional in everything he did. He was a very valued employee, wherever he worked. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He made it a priority to make time for those he loved and he added enjoyment no matter what the event. Cody was the kind of young man that anyone would be proud to call son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. Cody was a true blessing to those who knew him and he will be greatly missed by everyone. Our hearts will be forever broken.
Visitation will be held from 2pm-4pm Sunday, June 25, 2017 at McColley's funeral home in Hot Springs, SD.
Funeral services will be held at 10am, Monday, June 26, 2017, at the United Church in Edgemont, with Rev. Kori Lehrkamp and Pastor Tom Haggar officiating.
Burial services will be held at 2pm, at Pine Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Rapid City.
A memorial has been established in Cody's name.
