Cody's Motto-"Consistently Persistent In My Faith"
Cody James Runyon, A.K.A Rev Run, completed his journey of life on this earth on July 4, 2017, at the young age of 30, in Phoenix AZ.
Cody was born January 22, 1987, in Hot Springs, SD, to Johnny Runyon and Darla (Pullins) Benedict. He attended school in Hot Springs, kindergarten through his senior year graduating in 2005. Cody was a sports enthusiast; playing soccer at an early age, a stand out basketball player and truly excelled on the football field. Cody was a gifted athlete who could master most any sport he attempted. His favorite NFL team was the Minnesota Vikings, whether winning or losing he was a faithful fan. He could hold a conversation on most players/team and game statistics with the best ESPN sportscaster. He enjoyed playing a challenging game of Madden or golf on his XBOX even during his last two lengthy hospital stays. His love for music was obvious in his daily routine; whether singing around the house, enlightening his co-workers to the sound of a South Dakota boy's love of country music, singing at Friday night karaoke, and sharing with or requesting new song titles to listen to from his friends/family.
Following high school Cody attended college at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion graduating in 2010, with a B.S. degree in Education with an emphasis on Physical Education and Health Sciences. He moved to Phoenix, AZ in 2012, and was employed as an Admissions Representative with South University until the time of his passing.
Cody has been described as a faithful believer of Jesus, amazing friend, inspiration to others, selfless, giving, compassionate, loyal, conquer of cancer, humble, strong, and one who loved his family and friends deeply.
Cody was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Dale Pullins; paternal grandmother, Connie Runyon; paternal uncle, Mike Runyon and best friend Trampus Haskvitz.
Grateful for sharing his life are his father, Johnny (Arla) Runyon of Mitchell, SD; mother, Darla (Willie) Benedict of Hot Springs, SD, brothers, Lucas Runyon of Dickinson, ND; Dakota (Daniella) Benedict of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Lindsey Runyon with nephew, Braeden Dale of Hot Springs, half-sister, Savannah Day of Olympia, WA; paternal grandparents, John (Carol) Runyon of Vermillion, SD; maternal grandmother, Gladys Pullins of Hot Springs; special cousin/sister Sydney (Zane) Manning of Phoenix, AZ; aunts and uncles, Bill Pullins of Hot Springs; Cindy (Jim) Baker of Cody, WY; Jeff Pullins of Casper, WY; as well as numerous cousins and tons of friends throughout the years.
Services for the celebration of Cody's life will be held in Hot Springs and begin with a visitation from 6:00 p.m. thru 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 14, 2017 at Chamberlain-McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs.
Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday July 15, 2017, at the High School Case Auditorium in Hot Springs. Following the service, the American Legion has been reserved for gathering and the sharing of laughter, storytelling and refreshments.
Family request that attendees wear celebratory colors, such as reds, whites, and blues as Cody gained his freedom from cancer's pain and suffering to heaven on July 4th.
