Craig Reid Matthesen, 65, of Hill City, SD, passed away March 22.2016, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.

Craig was born October 23.1950, in Chadron, NE, to Louie and Priscilla (Reid) Matthesen. He went to elementary, high school and college in Chadron and was a Legion baseball coach during the summer. After college graduation, he worked as a sports writer for the Scottsbluff Herald and Chadron Record and was for a period of time, manager of the Chadron State Park store. Craig later moved to eastern, SD, where he owned and operated video stores in both Huron and Mitchell. After retirement at age 50, he lived in Las Vegas, NV, and also had a summer home in Hill City. Not satisfied to be completely retired, Craig recently purchased a convenience store/gas station near Rapid City. He was a sports fan, especially of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and enjoyed trips to many professional baseball games.

Craig is survived by his sister, Virginia (Larry) Hagemeier of Rochester, NY; brother, Larry (Jean) Matthesen of Custer, SD; nephew, Kirk (Tammy) Hagemeier and children of Centreville, VA; niece, Kristin (Joe) Fiannaca and their children of Rochester, NY.

Committal services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 1, 2016, at Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron, NE. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
