Helen "Daisy" Seachris was born in Pierre, SD, on November 5, 1946, to John and Mary Bourk.
Daisy was raised south of Blunt, SD, on a farm where her siblings and she learned the significance of hard work. Working hard became even more valued after their mother was hurt in an accident when Daisy was only thirteen. It was during this time that Daisy learned to be the cook and baker that she was. At this young age, she learned that God called her to be a caregiver when she began taking care of her mom. She continued to do this throughout her entire life in Blunt, Oral, and Presho.
Daisy attended Valley Springs Country School and Blunt High School; she also worshiped the Nazarene Church of Canning and the Blunt Baptist Church.
In 1962, she married Bernie Lauing, and to this union, four children were born: Tom, Denny, Shannon, and J.D.
Daisy moved to Presho in 1979, with her two younger children, Shannon and J.D. Here, Daisy began working at Husman Grocery Store. In 1982, Daisy fell head over heels for Marvin Seachris, whom she married in 1983. Their marriage blessed her with three step children: Pamela, Shanning, and Clay.
Daisy and Marvin were the owners and operators of New Life Boarding Home, where they cared for over fifty people throughout fifteen years. Daisy's mother lived with them, and when she fell ill, Daisy and Marvin honored her last wish of life by moving back "home" in 2000. Daisy and Marvin made it official by selling their home and business and moving back to Blunt to care for Mary until her passing in 2001.
Due to Marvin's health, the couple moved to Oral, SD in 2005, where they attended Wesleyan Church. Marvin left the world to "wait on a bench by the Gates of Heaven for Daisy" in November of 2013. Daisy continued to live her life on their small ranch in Oral, continuing to beautify the home that she and Marvin began.
Daisy loved nothing more than to host guests in the home that she and Marvin built. She would greet you with sweet rolls (that nobody can duplicate) and a cup of coffee. She always expressed great faith in the Lord, and she was a leader of that faith by example. Daisy went to meet Marvin in heaven on June 22, 2017. We were blessed to know and love Daisy, and we will miss her dearly until we see her again.
Daisy is survived by children: Tom (Laurie) Lauing of Oral, SD, Denny (Doris) Lauing of Sturgis, SD, Shannon (Bruce) Stroman of Parker, SD, and J.D. (Becky Amio) Lauing of Blunt, SD.
