Obituary

Dale C. McBride, 71, of Edgemont, SD passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.

Dale was born on September 24, 1937 in Hot Springs, SD to Thurman and Esther (Harrington) McBride. He spent his early years living at the Black Hills Army Depot in Igloo, SD where his father worked. He graduated in 1956 from the Edgemont High School. In 1958, Dale joined the United States Army.

On June 29, 1958 he married Beverly Reutter. Dale was stationed in Germany, where in 1960, their first child, John, was born. In 1961, Dale and Beverly returned to Edgemont where they had two more children, Deadra in 1964 and Jim in 1966. Dale worked for Burlington Northern Railroad from 1965 until his retirement in 1998. He has been a member of the Edgemont Masonic Lodge since 1999 and spent his summers working at the 1880 Train in Hill City from 2002 thru 2008.

Dale touched the lives of so many. Whether it be lifelong childhood friends, friends from his time as a Jaycee, Mason or a member of the fraternity of "Rails". When you became a friend of Dale's, you were a friend forever. Dale also had a passionate love of animals and birds. His daily routine included the care of his pigeons and a couple of retired horses, one of which he raised as a colt 30 years ago.

Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Beverly, of Edgemont; son, John (Heidi), of Edgemont; daughter, Deadra Ferguson, of Harrisburg; son, Jim, of Gillette, WY; sister, Arlie (Daryl) Schumacher, of Edgemont; brother-in-law, Ed (Wanda) Reutter, of Edgemont; grandchildren, Mike (Vanessa), Zach, Heather, Lyndsay and Rylee; great grandchildren, Blake, Dylan, Jaden, Daniel and Aiden; numerous nephews and nieces; special friend, Ross (Barbara) Roll, of Rapid City as well as many other friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Kyle.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 16th at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Edgemont from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 17th at 1:00 p.m. at the United Church in Edgemont with Pastor and Floyd Mills and Pastor Norma Mills. Interment will follow at the Edgemont Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Edgemont Masonic Lodge.
