Dale Delos Webster of Oelrichs, SD, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at Chadron Community Hospital surrounded by family at the age of 74.
Dale was born on September 19, 1935, in Chadron, NE to Fern and Morris (Thain) Webster. He was raised on the ranch by his mother, Fern, and grandparents, Fred and Selma Humiston. Fred homesteaded the ranch, 13 miles south of Oelrichs in 1909. Dale attended elementary school at Pleasant Ridge School located 11/4 miles west of the ranch. Dale graduated from Chadron Prepatory School in 1953. In high school, he played basketball. He was known for his pink Pontiac. Dale took over the ranching operations from Fred after high school. Dale married Carol Dunbar of Taylor, NE on July 23, 1961 in Taylor. Dale lived and worked all of his life on the ranch taking pride in his family heritage and passing those traditions on to his children and grandchildren. Dale gave everyone respect and was willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He was a patient man with much integrity.
Dale worked hard, but always gave time to his family. Dale never passed up the opportunity to go fishing and loved to take his grandkids along for the fun. He even experienced two trips to Grand Isle, Louisiana with his sons. Dale enjoyed visiting friends, taking drives in the country and going to his grandchildren's activities. Dale liked to watch football, especially the Huskers, college basketball and rodeo events. He loved to play cards and games, teach his grandchildren to build things, like birdhouses and he was the handyman of the family.
Dale is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brian & Marti Webster; his daughter and son-in-law, Marie & Bruce Wohlers; his son and daughter-in-law, Lynn & Melissa Webster; and grandchildren, Drew, Taylor & Michaela Wohlers, and Langdon, Raena & Kailee Webster.
Additional immediate family members include brother, Ty Thain; sister, Trebus Thain and husband Larry; sister-in-laws, Vicky Fine and husband Loran; Betty and husband Larry; brother-in-laws, Curtis Dunbar and wife Jeanne; Pete Peterson and numerous nephews & nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Webster; father, Morris Webster; parents, Fern & Virgil "Mick" Schramm; brothers, Tryson Thain & Tony Thain; sister-n-law, Evelyn Peterson.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs, SD, with Dr. J. Edwin Coates officiating.
