Daniel M. Schaffer, 95, of Freeport, IL, formerly of Hot Springs, SD, died Friday, April 10, 2009, at Provena St. Joseph Nursing Center. Born July 22, 1913 in Elkton, SD, he was the son of Herman and Anna (Timm) Schaffer. He married Dorothy Howard June 20, 1936, in Elkton.
He worked as a mechanic at Schaffer Brothers' John Deere implement agency for over 40 years. Daniel was a volunteer Fireman in Elkton for many years. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Freeport.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy of Freeport; his daughter, Grace (Gary) Mohr of Freeport; his son in-law, Earnest (Della) Clark of Tyler, TX; grandchildren, Katherine (Mike) Wolfe of York, PA; Mitchell (Kathy) Clark of Midland, TX; Cameron (Laurie) Mohr of Batavia, IL; Scott (Kristine) Clark of DeSoto, TX; and Stacey (Doug) Dach of Freeport; 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Dolores "Dee" Clark; four sisters; and seven brothers.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 1 at 1:30 p.m. at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs, SD, with Pastor Douglas Free of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. There will be a visitation beginning one hour before the service. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs. A memorial has been established.
