Obituary

Daryl Burnell Schumacher, age 69, of Edgemont, SD, passed away Monday, April 26, 2010 at the Veterans Medical Center in Hot Springs, SD.


Daryl was born in Aberdeen, SD on March 30, 1941 to Arthur Schumacher and Lydia Jakober Schumacher.


Daryl attended school at Igloo and Edgemont, SD- graduating from Edgemont High School in 1961, upon graduation he served in the U.S. Army from July 1961 until his honorable discharge in June 1964. Daryl lived in Edgemont from 1964 to 1966. He then moved to Concord CA. and worked for Standard Oil Company in Data Processing until 1977. Daryl married Arlie McBride Beard in 1969 in Capitola CA. and became a father of two sons, Scott and Terry Beard. Two daughters were later added to this family Lora and Michelle. The Schumacher family then moved back to Edgemont, SD in 1977 where they opened the Hillsview Cafe in March 1978 with Arlie's brother Dale and Beverly McBride.


Daryl took great pride in his family and friends, enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's school activities. He loved music, singing and was a great dancer. He enjoyed playing cards and games with friends and family.


Survivors include his wife, Arlie of Edgemont; sons, Scott (Theresa) Schumacher; Terry (Pamela) Beard; daughters, Lora (Brad) Boen and Michelle Schumacher all of Edgemont; step mother Francelia Dibble Schumacher of Manchaca, TX; brothers, Howard (Evelyn) Schumacher of Carlsbad, CA; Robert (Donna) Schumacher of Mesa, AZ; Donald Schumacher of Martinez, CA; James Schumacher of Cheyenne, WY; Larry (Helen) Schumacher of Bloomington, IL; fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by father Arthur and mother Lydia; sister, Edna and half sister, Elaine.


Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, May 2, 2010 at United Church in Edgemont.


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 3, 2010 at United Church in Edgemont with Pastor Floyd Mills and Pastor Norma Mills officiating.


Interment will be at 3:00 p.m., Monday, May 3, 2010, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.


A memorial has been established in Daryl's name to benefit the Edgemont Ambulance Service and the Edgemont Senior Citizens Center.
