David LaRay 'Dave' Soper, 70, died unexpectedly of natural causes on April 12, 2018, at his home in Hot Springs, SD.

Dave was born on February 5, 1948, in Crawford, NE, to William and Bertha (Dieckmann) Soper. He grew up in Jackson Hole, WY. After high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served honorably with an Engineering Battalion in Vietnam from February 1968 to September 1969.

In 1972, while working for Wallvard Construction in Hanna, WY, David met and married Treva Wilson of Ellington, MO.  In 1974, they had a daughter, Davona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 'Bud' and 'Bert'; brother, Kelly; grandson, David Eisenbraun; numerous aunts and uncles; as well as his dear friend, Treva Jaure.

Leaving to grieve his passing, his best friend Abby, his beloved chihuahua; daughter, Davona Wilson (Chris) of Sidney, MT; grandson, Jake Tackett (Jessica) with, great-grandson, Brogan, great-granddaughters Onika, Oriana, and Natalia, all of Milford, IA; granddaughter, Theila Eisenbraun, with his great granddaughter, Maizy Mitchell and her father Aaron Mitchell, all of Gillette, WY; sister, Penny Soper of Hot Springs, SD; his nephews, Shea Zeller and Travis Soper of Gillette, WY; great-niece Graci Soper. Many others he met from Alaska to Washington, DC, including close friends, former colleagues, in-laws and brothers-in-laws will remember him fondly. Dave had a life-long love of the Grand Tetons where his home was in Jackson Hole, WY. He loved all of his family and friends and will be remembered as "Grandpa" and "Uncle Dave" by many in his family. Those who knew Dave knew he had "nine lives".

Memorial Services will be held 4:00 p.m., Thursday, April 19, 2018, at the Hot Springs American Legion Post 71, 1045 Jennings Ave, Hot Springs. Committal services will be held at a later date at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs.
