Obituary

David Haak, 76, of Custer, SD, passed away on November 27, 2017, at his home after an extended illness.

He was born on February 27, 1941, in Dell Rapids SD, to Alven and Alpha (Flaten) Haak. David grew up on a family farm east of Dell Rapids. He discovered early on what hard work was. He spent 17 years working for Maguire Iron of Tea, SD, where he welded, sandblasted and painted water towers across the Midwest region. He later started his own business, D & L Sandblasting and Painting, which was located at Chancellor, SD. He really loved being self-employed.

In 2004, he and his wife moved to Jeffersonville, NY and in 2010 they retired to Custer, SD. The Black Hills had always captured his heart and soul and he truly loved living and playing there. Just driving around the Hills made him very happy and he loved showing people around the back country. His specialty was driving off the beaten path and locating little known spots of attraction.

Dave's passion was driving his trike. He owned many of them over the years, having built several of them himself. He loved creating and tinkering with metal and if it had a motor and wheels that was just a bonus. His passion to be outdoors was always there. He would spend time with anyone who stopped by to visit. He would postpone what he was doing and go back to his project in due time.

He was known as a man of integrity and a faithful friend. His family and friends respected and admired him and he was known for his generosity, sense of humor and impeccable work ethic. This wonderful man is now resting in the arms of Jesus, but he has left a hole in the hearts of those who loved him.

David is survived by his wife of 25 years, Lee Andrews of Custer, SD and her family; his brothers, Jerome (Betty) Haak of Dell Rapids; his sisters, Joyce (Paul) Brook of Ramona, CA and Diane (Phil) Wolfe of San Diego, CA; his children, Lori (Kermit) Roemeling of Sioux Falls, SD, Duane (Josie) Haak of Sioux Falls, SD, Darrin (Barbara) Haak of Brandon, SD, Tod (Shane) Haak of Goodyear, AZ, and Joe Haak of Des Moines, IA; his seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren and many nephews, nieces and extended family and friends.

David was preceded in death by his brother Roger Haak.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m.,Thursday, December 7, 2017, Living Outreach Church, Pastor Joel Ziolkowski will be officiating.
