IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David R.
Hill
April 12, 1944 – December 15, 2025
David R. Hill
After a long and interesting life, David Hill fought a brief battle with cancer, and then went home to rest with His Savior on December 15th, 2025.
Born April 12, 1944, David spent time in France, Japan, and in several different U.S. states. He earned a Master's degree in English, and became an educator, working at various levels of the education system. He came to the Black Hills in the early 2000's. He worked locally in education before retiring
David loved Custer and stayed active in retirement. He was a regular at the Senior Center, rarely missed the senior lunch at the Catholic Church, and spent countless hours at the Custer County Library. An avid reader, he read broadly, and had a special affinity for conspiracy, mystery and investigations of strange phenomena. David also loved heading to the Custer Beacon to listen to live music.
David became more active in the Church after his arrival in Custer. He became a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in 2021. He thought deeply about the Word of God, often asking penetrating questions during Bible Study. He remained consistent in Sunday worship attendance, even as his health failed. His last Sunday at Our Redeemer was just eight days before he passed-on to join the heavenly host gathered around the throne of God.
Because David made friends wherever he went, his final months were filled with visits from the many people from his congregation and the Custer community. His dry humor and sly smile will be missed.
Memorials may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or to the Custer County Library.
A memorial service for David will be celebrated January 3rd, 10:00 a.m., at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Custer, 744 Harney St.
