Obituary

David Lloyd Johnson, age 80, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away peacefully to be with his Lord in Heaven on September 27, 2014, with his wife of 60 years, Marilyn, sitting by his side.

David was born in Phillip, SD, on September 7, 1934, to Lloyd and Aretta Johnson. He was raised in Wasta, SD and Raymond, SD, on the family's watermelon and wheat farms. David was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, athlete, coach, teacher, devoted family man and father. He was in the US Air Force from 1954 to 1957, and served in Guam during the Korean War. He was a High School Basketball coach and Industrial Arts teacher from 1962 to 1982, dedicating his life work to improve the lives of his students. David coached and taught in Bradley, SD, Doland, SD, Mandaree, ND, Ruthven, IA, Story, WY, Corona, SD, Newcastle, WY, and Libby, MT. David and his family spent summers on the family wheat farm in Raymond, SD. In 1990, David participated in the South Dakota State Senior Games in Rapid City, SD, placing in multiple track and field events.

David is survived by his wife, Marilyn Johnson, of Hot Springs; two sisters, Pat Johnson of Watertown, SD; Lynda Biers of Scenic, SD; three daughters, Terry Kucera of San Diego, CA; Pam Choal of Chamberlain, SD; Lori Choal of Laramie, WY; two sons, Curtis Johnson of Laramie, WY; and Bryce Johnson of Laramie, WY. David has 18 Grandchildren Ryan Walker, Melissa Walker, Erica Walker, Trisha Walker, Krista Schoeppner, Tenelle Choal, Tyler Choal, Ashley Singleton, Drew Choal, Taylor Choal, Torrey Johnson, Joe Johnson, Lacey Johnson, Austin Johnson, Cody Johnson, Bridgette Johnson, Brayleigh Johnson, and Breckarys Johnson. He has 4 Great-Grandchildren: Paityn Johnson, Kayson Johnson, Adelaide Walker, and Ty Schoeppner.

David was predeceased by his Grandparents, Ed and Jennie Shuhart, both of his Parents and his infant daughter, Arietta Marie.

Funeral Services will be held at the Assembly of God Church, in Hot Springs on Monday, October 6, 2014, at 10:00 am. Interment with military honors will be held at the Black Hills National Cemetery, near Sturgis, SD, Monday, October 6, 2014, at 2:30 pm.
