Obituary

Dean Michael Hunhoff, of Custer, South Dakota passed away July 11, 2019 at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Hot Springs, SD.

Dean was born January 22 nd 1966 to Ronald Hunhoff and Sundra Gosser in Yankton, SD

Dean is survived by his wife, Gladys of Custer; sons, Travis(Grace) Torres of Gillette, WY; William (Julia) Torres of Thornton, CO; Calvin (Katie) Hunhoff of Scotland, SD; daughter, Kailey (Jarod) Thomas of Harrisburg, SD; Parents, Ronald and Sundra (Sandi) Hunhoff of Yankton, SD; brothers, twin brother Dale (Linda) Hunhoff of Worthing, SD; Doug (Diane) Hunhoff of Smithville, MO, grandchildren, Drew; Samara; Josie; Kirsten; Elliot; Trenton; Brayden; Aspen; Wesley; and Hunhoff twins on the way.

February 5 th , 1984, Dean began his Military Career prior to graduating in May of 1984 from Yankton High School.  He served in both in Wyoming and South Dakota for nearly 34 years and retired in 2017.  Dean attended Dakota Wesleyan College in Mitchell, SD, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1989.

In 2001, Dean married his loving wife Gladys in Gillette Wyoming; soon after they relocated to Cheyenne, Wyoming where they lived and worked for 16 years.  In 2008, they had built a small cabin on land they had purchased 8 miles south of Custer, SD.  They spent as many weekends, holidays, and any free chance they would get, relaxing and building memories at the cabin with family and friends.  In 2017, after retiring, Dean and Gladys relocated permanently to Custer.

Dean was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed coaching, watching and participating in all sports. Dean was active as an assistant football coach at Custer High School and was a member of Custer Lions Club and Legion. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, playing countless hours of card games, washers and cornhole.

Memorial Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday July 19 th , 2019 at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Custer, SD.

Committal services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday July 19 th , 2019 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD

Reception to follow at 4:30 PM at Pringle Community Center, Pringle South Dakota. Memorials have been established in Dean's name to benefit the Pringle United Methodist Church in Pringle, SD.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Custer, SD.
