Debra Ann Eckert, 51, of Rapid City, died Monday, October 11 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
She was born August 7, 1959 in Rapid City to Donald (Bud) and Vera (Guisinger) Eckert. Deb grew up in Custer, S.D., attended Custer schools, graduating from Custer High School in 1977. After high school she attended Black Hills State College in Spearfish.
During her lifetime Deb was employed as a care-giver at the Custer State Hospital at Custer, and at Black Hills Workshop in Rapid City. She worked at Ranch Mart convenience store in Rapid Valley, and at Big D Oil Co. convenience store in Custer. Her very first job at the age of 14 was making and selling popcorn at the Harney Theater in Custer. She also worked the concession stand at the Mountain Music Show in Custer.
In 1991 Deb was blessed with a son, D.J., who was the "Joy of her Life".
Deb loved living in the Black Hills, and spending time in Custer State Park. Family "get-togethers" were special to her. She did so enjoy being with her family and her beloved cat, Purdy.
Survivors include her son, Donald James (DJ) Eckert, Rapid City, S.D., mother, Vera Livingston, Custer,S.D., three brothers, Rod(Jeanna) Eckert, Selah, WA., Randy Eckert, Yakima, WA., Larry(Jane) Livingston, Fairburn, S.D., three sisters, Darcy (Steve) Lockwood, Yankton, S.D., Val (Tom) Robichaud, Hampton, N.H., D'ana Livingston, Ft. Pierre, S.D., aunt and uncle, Jim, and Monica Schneider, Rapid City, S.D., aunt, Peaches Guisinger, Tucson, Az., uncle, Ron Eckert, Fort Mill, S.C., and many "special" Nieces and Nephews, Cousins, and Friends.
Deb was preceded in death by her father, Donald (Bud) Eckert in 1968 and step-father, Floyd Livingston in 2007, and grandparents, Ross and Bernice Guisinger, Kink and Elsie Holwell, and Walter Eckert.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 16, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Custer with Pastor Bill Savery officiating.
Interment will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 16th at Mountain View Cemetery in Keystone, SD.
