Obituary

Dennis O. Myrvik, 68, of Edgemont, SD, died March 13, 2007 at his home in Edgemont, SD.

Dennis was born in Minneota, MN, to Arnold J. and Freda L. (Strand) Myrvik and was baptized at Hemnes Lutheran Church in rural Minnesota. At the age of 5, he moved with his family to the Black Hills Ordinance Depot in Igloo, SD and attended Provo School. He was confirmed at Our Savior Lutheran Mission in Igloo. The family moved to Edgemont, SD where he completed his Junior and Senior years, graduating from Edgemont High School in 1957.

Shortly thereafter he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country for 20 years and retired with honorable discharged in 1977. After leaving the Navy, he spent about a year in Montrose, CO with his family and then came back to spend some time in Edgemont with his brother, Dick and family.

Dennis took a job with the Burlington Northern Railroad in Edgemont. He met and married Cherry Porter on March 14, 1979. With this union he also acquired a ready made family of four rambunctious stepsons and became very close with them, and they with him.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Cherry (who lovingly cared for him with help from his brother, Dick, through his lengthy illness), four stepsons, Shane Porter of Edgemont, SD; Bret Porter of Ely, NV; Nick Porter of Casper, WY; Bill Porter of Wheatridge, CO; mother, Freda Stewart of Montrose, CO; stepmother, Ione Myrvik of Billings, MT, four brothers, Dick Myrvik of Hot Springs, SD; Roger Stewart Montrose, CO; Harold Stewart of Montrose, CO; Ronald Myrvik of Mile City, MT; three sisters, Nancy Ragels of Cheyenne, WY; Sharon Smart of Montrose, CO; Renita Stoltz of Billings, MT; fourteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren and little dog, Freda.

Memorial Services will be held 10:00 am, Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Edgemont, SD with Intern Emme Isaacson officiating.

Interment will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD with Chaplain Moe Greiner officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Sturgis Honor Guard.

A memorial has been established in Dennis' name to benefit the Edgemont Ambulance Service.
