Diana Marie Caspersen

October 16, 1946 – August 14, 2025

If you ever called Diana Caspersen, you knew you'd be greeted by her trademark "eh, hello." If you happened to be a telemarketer, though, you might also have been informed—quite seriously—that she was going to sue you. That mix of humor, candor, and fierceness was part of what made her unforgettable.

Born on October 16, 1946, in Ellensburg, Washington, to Charles P. and Lucille L. Weiker, Diana lived a life anchored by love, faith, and family. With her husband, Larry, she helped establish the Lutheran church in Altus, becoming a founding member and steadfast supporter of that congregation.

Her proudest role was being wife, mother, and grandmother. She adored her children, Mark and Denise, and treasured her grandchildren, Nelsen, Lineah, and Andrew. She also cherished her many nieces and nephews, her extended chosen family, and her adopted children—Bill Barr, Scott Rubin, Sarah, and Sonja Fields. Later in life, her beloved dogs, Snickers and Pappion, became her constant companions.

Diana loved word puzzles, watching the traffic go by, and sitting on her deck at the home her family built for her—the place she most wanted to be. She could spend hours people-watching, quietly forming opinions and asking questions about those who passed by. Dining out always ended the same way: with leftovers carefully packed up, because, as she always said, "We paid for it, so it needs to go home with us."

Those who loved her knew both her tenderness and her fire. She said "I love you" easily, and just as easily spoke her mind when something needed to be set straight. Loyal to her friends, protective of her family, generous to a fault—Diana lived honestly and fiercely.

Her family will carry forward her lessons: to love without reservation, to be kind, to help others when you can, and to never back down from life's challenges.

She is survived by her children, Mark Caspersen and Denise Caspersen; her grandchildren, Nelsen Caspersen, Lineah Gill, and Andrew Gill; her siblings, Dennis Weiker, Maryanne Schmitz, and Richard Pattison; numerous nieces and nephews; her extended chosen family; and her adopted children, Bill Barr, Scott Rubin, Sarah, and Sonja Fields. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Caspersen; her parents, Charles P. and Lucille L. Weiker; and her brothers, Kenny, Chucky, and Johnny Weiker.

Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Monday, August 18, 2025 at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Custer, SD.

Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Custer, SD followed by committal service at Pringle Cemetery in Pringle, SD.
