Dickie Dean "Rich" Sassman, age 50, of Custer County, SD, died on September 3, 2018, in Custer.

Rich was born on June 27, 1968, to Gerald and Barbara (Ensley) Sassman in Storm Lake, IA. He graduated in 1986 from Sioux Rapids High School, IA then attended West Hills in Visalia, CA obtaining an associate's degree in Aeronautics. Rich worked at Tennyson Investments (Custer Hospitality) as their Chief Maintenance Engineer. In 2014, he fulfilled his dreams to move to the Black Hills with his love Angie, making Custer their home. They were united in marriage on June 24, 2017.

Rich was a hard worker and loved spending time with his family who always came first, his animals, hunting, kayaking, and motorcycling. He is best remembered for his generosity and willingness to help a friend in need.

He is survived by his father, Gerald Sassman of Sioux Rapids, IA; wife, Angie Sassman of Custer; sons, Dylan Sassman of Storm Lake, IA; Dalton Sassman of Storm Lake, IA; step-daughter, Mackenzie Miller of Custer, SD; grandchildren, Bently, Gavynn, Sawyer; siblings, Cinda Ekstrom of Custer, SD; Glenda Struve of Rembrandt, IA; James Beal of Newell, IA; Bob Beal of Storm Lake, IA; and Mindy Sandlin of Fairfield. OH.

He was loved by many and will be missed by his family and countless friends.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 7, 2018, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Custer with Pastor Ernie Bishop officiating.
