Donald James Bowker, 71 of Oral/Smithwick, SD, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2009 at the Bowker Ranch in Oral.
Don was born February 7, 1938 in Hot Springs, SD, to Lyle and Marie Bowker, one of six sons. He grew up in the Oral Smithwick area, and attended one room schools at Hay Canyon, Morning Star and Smithwick. He graduated from Oelrichs High School in 1957.
Don worked area ranches before moving to California in the mid-60s, where he did ranch and agriculture work. He returned to live at the family ranch in 2004 with his brother, Bob. He enjoyed his last five years hunting with his brothers and friends, and also greatly enjoyed developing and caring for new Tree Shelter Belts.
Don had a great many friends, and was always very generous in sharing whatever he had with his friends. Everyone who knew him knew his "Heart was kind and generous"
Survivors include his brothers, Dennis (Meta) Bowker of Hot Springs; Bob Bowker of Oral; Steve Bowker of Big Piney WY; and Gary (Dixie) Bowker of Lakewood CO, and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Gene Bowker.
Services were held at 10.00 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs with Dr. J. Edwin Coates officiating.
