Donald William 'Don' Mongold of Hot Springs, SD, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was 68 years old.
Don was born November 21, 1944, in Moorefield, WV, to Othar William and Mary V. (Mitchell) Mongold. The youngest of four children, he grew up in Petersburg, WV, later moving with the family to Germantown, MD.
He served in the United States Army from 1961 until 1964.
He spent his early working years in construction and excavation, operating heavy equipment in the Baltimore, MD, and Washington DC areas. He later became a truck driver and spent 30 years driving both as a company driver and as an owner/operator with his own truck. He retired in 2012.
Don is survived by his wife, Nancy of Hot Springs; his daughter, Dona (Ivan) Abarca of Thurmont, MD; three grandchildren, Ivan, Collin, and Nicole Abarca and one great-grandson, Logan Abarca all of Thurmont, MD; two sisters, Shelby (Vance) Bensenhaver of Petersburg, WV; Sue (Bob) Renfrew of Clarksburg, MD; his brother, Bob (Sandy) Mongold of Roseville, CA; as well as many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, and numerous aunts and uncles.
