Dorathea (Dort) Howard Shaw, age 87, of Oelrichs, SD died December 11, 2006 at her home in Oelrichs.

Dorathea was born May 5, 1919 in Winner, SD to Ralph and Birdie (Snyder) Howard. She moved to the Oelrichs area with her parents as an infant. She attended rural Oelrichs schools for a while and received the rest of her elementary and high school education from the Oelrichs School, graduating from the Oelrichs High School in 1937.

Dorathea married Elmer Shaw in 1937. The couple ranched in the Oelrichs area until 1979, when they moved to Oelrichs. She worked in food services at the Oelrichs Schools for 16 years and retired in 1980.

Dorathea was a member of the Oelrichs United Methodist Church, PTA, Historical Society, Oelrichs Bunco Group, Original Member of Horsehead Birthday Club, Oelrichs Ladies Club and dearly loved bingo.

She is survived by her two daughters, Charlene (Jack) Anderson of Oklahoma City, OK; Janice Shaw of Cheyenne, WY; son, Clayton (Nancy) Shaw of Hot Springs, SD; six grandchildren, Roger, Diane and Michael Anderson; Larry Elwess, Douglas and Jeffrey Shaw; five great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Avon Shaw, Robert Shaw; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Cobble and Ann Shaw and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her spouse, Elmer in 1985; brother, Burdette and sister, Margaret Morrison.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Thursday, December 14, 2006 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs, SD.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, December 15, 2006 at the Oelrichs United Methodist Church with Pastor Gordon Higgins, Pastor Jeanne Higgins and Pastor David Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Oelrichs, SD.
