IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Doris "Dotty"
Mae Tillman
April 24, 1932 – November 13, 2022
On April 24, 1932, the lives of Arthur and Dorothy Gould were brightened when they welcomed a tiny little baby girl into this world. They named her Doris Mae Gould. But she preferred to be called "Dotty".
Doris grew up in Hill City, SD. She attended all 12 years of school in the original Hill City school building. She was active in choir, science, and debate (which she enjoyed all her life). She had a beautiful singing voice. After graduation she attended Chadron State College. Physics and Philosophy were her favorite subjects. She also studied voice. Her fellow classmates and lifetime friends, Dody and Horace Raga, also attended Chadron and they often talked of this adventure part of their lives.
On July8 1951 Doris married the love of her life, Cleo Tillman. Together they had two children, Wanda Lee and Dale Arthur. Doris and Cleo spent most of their married life in Gunnison , Colorado where they operated an electrical contract business. Their family enjoyed the winter activities and Doris worked in their business and was also able to enjoy painting and knitting during the long winter months. After 28 years of marriage Doris and Cleo separated. Doris never remarried.
Animals of any kind had a place in Dotty's heart and over the years there were many dogs and cats that were lucky to find a warm loving place in her home. At one time she and her daughter owned a kennel north of Los Angles, California. After a few years it became too much for her health and she returned to Hill City, SD to make her home. Knitting was her creative gift. All of her family members enjoyed the product of those needles. The hats, scarves and sweaters were amazing and welcomed Christmas gifts. She also liked to make tiny hats, booties and mittens for the babies in the neonatal unit.
Dotty suffered many health issues and disappointments but always met them head on and never lost her will to keep a positive attitude and treat those around her with genuine respect and caring. She would just pick up the pieces and keep on.
She was a member of The Little White Church in Hill City and served wherever she was needed. Dotty lived and believed that Jesus was Lord and now she rests in His arms.
Dotty made her way to heaven on Sunday, November 13, 2022
She is survived by her son, two grandchildren, her sister Phyllis Burnam, special friend Jim Goodart and many nieces and nephews who knew and loved their aunt Dotty. Her loving parents and daughter Wanda preceded her in death.
