Dorothy May Monsen, age 100, of Custer, SD, passed away on February 18, 2015, at the Custer Regional Senor Care Center.

Dorothy May Parsons was born on a ranch 7 miles SW of Custer, to Leslie DF and Ethyl (Booker) Parsons on October 26, 1914. She was one of six children and spent her entire life in Custer.

Dorothy served as Custer County Auditor for many years. She also enjoyed many years as the secretary of the Custer Community Church. Upon her retirement, Dorothy and her husband, Mag, traveled all around the United States in their mobile home visiting relatives. They enjoyed spending time at the Custer Senior Center. Both Dorothy and Mag moved into the Custer Regional Senior Care facility in July, 2003. Dorothy felt truly at home there. The sincerity, love and care she received were heartfelt. This was a blessing for Dorothy as well as for her entire family; the peace of mind knowing that Dorothy was happy and well cared for.

Dorothy was known for a ready smile, wonderful sense of humor, compassionate and caring attitude, and was selfless when others required help. She instilled those characteristics into her children and truly exemplified the verse "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". She was MUCH LOVED and will be a part of all who loved her forever!

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Magner Monsen; parents, four siblings and two children, Dorothy Jean Shaffer and Ranny B. Duncan.

Dorothy is survived by one brother, Dewey Parsons; three children, Richard D. F. Duncan; Josephine A. Gray; Ray (Mary) Duncan; as well as many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.


Funeral services will be led 10:00 a.m., Friday, February, 27, 2015, at the Custer Community Church in Custer with interment following at the Custer Cemetery.
