Obituary

Dorothy Estella Morgan, age 81 of Oelrichs, SD, passed away May 21, 2008 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.

Dorothy was born September 10, 1926 to Fred C. and Bethel (Wilder) Rasmussen on the ranch at Hay Canyon. She attended school in Hay Canyon, Smithwick, Buffalo Gap and graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1945. On January 12, 1946 she married Elmer Morgan. They made their home on a ranch between Oral and Smithwick where they raised their family. In 1982 Dorothy and Elmer retired in Oelrichs where they operated the Oelrichs Tack Shop from 1984 until 1999.

Dorothy helped organize the Ole Neighbor Get Together and helped with the "Sunshine Sagebrush" book from Oral and Smithwick. She was a member of the Oelrichs Methodist Church, Oral Daylighters Social Club, Ole Neighbor Get Together, Oelrichs United Methodist Women and Bunco and card clubs. She was the official national weather recorder for over 30 years.

Dorothy's joys in life were kids, grandkids, great grandkids and neighborhood kids. She enjoyed family reunions, making jelly for family and friends. She had a full-time project of researching and recording genealogy.

Dorothy is survived by two sons, Wayne (Sandy) Morgan of Spearfish, SD; Blaine (Karen) Morgan of Oral, SD; one daughter Patricia (Mike) Schommer of Oelrichs; four brothers, Frank Rasmussen and Gary Rasmussen both of Hot Springs, SD; John (Joan) Rasmussen of Fortuna, CA; David (Verda) Rasmussen of Worland, WY; one sister, Mary Jane Flyte of Hot Springs; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Elmer; sisters, Viola Donnafield; Ella Bahr; Fern Merwin; Alice Lake; Sarah Reitenbaugh; brothers, Fred; Harry; Charles; Edward and Bobby.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 23, 2008 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2008 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs with Pastor Edwin Coates officiating. Interment will be held 2:00 p.m. at the Fairview Cemetery near Oral.

A memorial has been established in Dorothy's name to benefit the Custer-Fall River Larger Parish New Building Fund, PO Box 143, Oelrichs, SD 57763 or the Oelrichs Senior Meals Program.
