Obituary

Dorothy May Roder Otiker was born to Benedict (Ben) and Hulda Magdaline (Maybelle) Roder on May 31, 1931 in Chicago, IL. Dorothy went home to the Lord on Monday March 15, 2010.

Dorothy attended school and graduated from Taft High School in Chicago, IL. She played softball for the Speedettes in her younger years and her team was very successful. Right after high school she went to work for Chicago Bell Telephone Company and met her husband Victor Otiker, whom she married on August 2, 1955, while working there. Dorothy also worked at Custer State Hospital in the 70s and 80s. They moved to Bronson, Kansas and Globe, Arizona prior to retiring back here to Custer, SD in 1991.

Dorothy was an accomplished artist, painting beautiful wild life and scenery paintings, many of which she donated to the Black Hills Mountain Lion Club to be auctioned at their fund raising benefits.


She is survived by their son, Mark (Rhonda) Otiker of Custer; her sister, Virginia (Jeanie) Fuchssteiner of New Glarus, WI; her nephew, Allen Roder of Lyndon, IL; her niece, Carolyn (Jim) Ziebert of Sandwich, IL; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several great nieces and nephews.


Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Victo; her parents, Ben and Maybelle (Hulda) Roder; brothers, Benny; Oscar; and Ray Roder; her sister, Florence Roder Neuenschwander; a sister in law, Vivian Carlson; and a great grandson, Tyrell Rothleutner.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer.

Funeral services will be Friday March 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Custer, SD.

A memorial has been established in Dorothy's name to benefit the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Custer.
