Obituary

Douglas ‘Doug’ Wayne Syverson, 80, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away May 25, 2026, at Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, SD. He was born October 4, 1945, in Big Fork, MN, to Harold and Vivian Syverson.

Doug married the love of his life, Betty Lou Katherine Bergman, October 12, 1963 and they shared over 62 beautiful years together. They raised two children and resided in Minnesota before moving to Hot Springs, SD in 2015. Doug proudly serviced in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 until his honorable discharge in 1968. He was stationed in King Salmon, Alaska.

Doug built a successful career with Minnesota Power Company as a Residential and Commercial Specialist from 1968 until he retired. He could always be heard singing along with Elvis, Kenny Rogers and Kris Kristofferson, along with several other favorites. He loved old cars and enjoyed going to car shows. One of his favorite things to do was take his bride on Sunday drives while sharing picnics.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; their two children, Chuck (Barb) Syverson; Wendy Syverson; five grandchildren, Mitchell (Dani) Syverson; Dion (Annamarie) Scro; Christian Syverson; Frankee (Travis) Fluck; Harlee Ahrens and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Vivian Syverson.

Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m., Friday, May 29, 2026, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Hot Springs, SD followed by funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Committal service will be held 2:30 p.m., Monday, June 1, 2026 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
